1. Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited to introduce next-generation multi-terabit India-Asia-Xpress undersea cable system in the Maldives.

  • This new subsea cable system will connect the Maldives, directly with world's major internet hubs in India & Singapore.
  • Undersea cable systems along with data centre supports 5G & the digital economy that builds large integrated capacities to enable India's digital ecosystem.
  • RJIL has also built another subsea cable system India-Europe-Xpress, that connects Mumbai & Milan.
2. JICA approves Rs. 1000 crore project to clean Mula, Mutha rivers of Pune
  • The Mula & Mutha rivers are the most polluted rivers in the city of Pune, which later meets Krishna river in Western Ghats and drains into Bay of Berngal.
  • Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has approved the project worth Rs. 1000 crores to clean these rivers.

3. U.S imposes USD 55 million upon National Bank of Pakistan
  • The Federal Reserve Board imposes penalties against the bank for violations in monetary schemes.
  • National Bank of Pakistan is a subsidiary of the State Bank of Pakistan which is the Central Bank of Pakistan.
  • This happens when Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan was returning from a visit to Russia amid the Russia-Ukraine war crisis.
4. EU bans 7 Russian Banks from SWIFT
  • The European Union has banned 7 Russian banks from the Society for World-Wide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT) global system that underpins cross-border payments.
  • However, two banks are exempted from its 1. Gazprombank 2. Sberbank
  • These two banks play a central role in managing the payment system.
5. World Bank announced $1 billion in aid to Afghanistan
  • The World Bank has announced $1 billion humanitarian aid for the people of Afghanistan.
  • The money will go to the UN agencies and international NGOs, by not giving it to the Taliban rulers in the country.
6. North Korea launched a new ballistic missile
  • North Korea recently launched a new ballistic missile with an altitude of about 390 miles and a range of 190 miles
7. Swiss Airlines to use fuel made from Sunlight
  • Swiss International Airlines will become the first airlines in the world to use fuel made from sunlight.
  • The Swiss International Airlines and its parent company Lufthansa Group have agreed to use the solar aviation fuel of Synhelion.
8. China raised defense budget by $230 billion
  • China raised its defense budget by 7.1% to $230 billion from last year's $209 billion.
  • According to China, most of the spending increases would go for the welfare of the troops.
9. Bangladesh signed agreements with ADB for two loans
  • Bangladesh has signed two separate agreements with Asian Development Bank for two loans worth $ 292 million.
10. Canada approves world's first plant-based Covid-19 Vaccine
  • Covifenz, the world's first plant-based covid-19 vaccine, got approval from the Canadian govt. for use.
  • The vaccine is jointly developed by Medicago Inc., Phillip Morris, & GlaxoSmithKline Plc.
11. Germany to host the virtual meeting of G7 Agriculture Ministers
  • The meeting will be held to explore the implications of the conflict between Russia & Ukraine on Global Food Security.
12. Iran successfully test fired 2nd military satellite 'Noor-2'
  • Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has successfully test fired 2nd military satellite 'Noor-2' into an orbit to an altitude of 500 Km above the Earth.
  • Noor means light in Persian language.
  • The first military satellite was launched in April 2020 into an orbit of 425 Km above the Earth.
13. 5th United Nations Environment Assembly hosted by UNEP
  • The 5th United Nations Environment Assembly has hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme in Nairobi, Kenya.
  • Aim was to " strengthen actions for nature to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals".
