February 2021 National & International Days UPSC



1. 2nd Feb   -  World Wetlands Day 

   Purpose         -   To raise global awareness about the vital role of wetlands for people and our planet

   Theme 2021  -   "Wetlands & Water".


2. 4th Feb  -   World Cancer Day

    Purpose     -   To raise awareness, improve education & catalyze personal, collective & govt. action 

                           towards fighting cancer.

Theme 2021  -   "I am & I will".


3. 4th Feb  -    International Day of Human Fraternity

Purpose         -    To promote interreligious and intercultural dialogue.

                            To promote cultural and religious tolerance, understanding & dialogue

Theme 2021  -   "A Pathway to the Future".


4. 6th Feb  -   Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation

Purpose         -   To promote the elimination of female genital mutilation.

                           To spread awareness and educate people about the problems female faced due to                                     genital mutilation.

Theme 2021  -   " No Time for global Inaction, Unite, Fund & Act to End Female Genital Mutilation".


5. 10th Feb -   World Pulses Day 

Purpose         -   To recognize the importance of pulses ( chickpeas, dry beans, lentils, dry peas & lupin                              among others) as a global food. The day is established by the Food & Agriculture                                   Organisation ( FAO)  of the United Nations to recognize the importance of pulses as a                             global food.

Theme 2021  -  #LovePulses for a healthy diet and planet


6. 11th Feb -   International Day of  Woman & Girls in Science

Purpose         -    To achieve full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls.

Theme           -   "Women Scientists at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19".


7. 13th Feb -   World Radio Day

Purpose         -    To raise awareness among the public and the media of the importance of radio.

                            To encourage decision-makers,

                            To establish and provide access to information through radio,

                            To enhance networking and international cooperation among broadcasters.

Theme 2021  -   "New World, New Radio".


8. 20th Feb -    World Pangolin Day

Purpose         -     To draw as much attention to pangolins as possible, since they are still relatively                                     unknown outside of Africa and Asia.

                             To join together in raising awareness about these unique mammals and their plight.

                              Pangolins are unfortunately one of the most heavily trafficked mammals in the                                        illegal wildlife trade.


9. 20th Feb -    World Day of Social Justice

Purpose         -     Peaceful and prosperous coexistence of the human race. Spreads awareness about                                    removing barriers that people face because of gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion,                                  culture or disability.

Theme 2021  -    "A call for Social Justice in the Digital Economy".


10. 21st Feb -     International Mother Language Day

Purpose    -     To promote the preservation and protection of all languages used by people of the world.

Theme 2021  -     "Fostering multilingualism for inclusion in education and society".


11. 28th Feb -      National Science Day

Purpose         -      To bring awareness to people about the importance of science in our daily life and to                                 encourage people by popularizing Science and Technology.                                                                      To commemorate the discovery of the 'Raman Effect'. On this day CV Raman Nobel                                Prize in 1930 for his discovery of 'Raman Effect'.

Theme   -  "Future of Science, Technology & Innovation (STI) : Impact on Educational Skills &Work".
