  1. World Literacy Day

1.1       World Literacy Day/ International Literacy Day is celebrated every year worldwide to raise awareness and concerns for literacy problems that exist in the local communities and globally.

1.2       The idea of an International Literacy Day was born at the World Conference of Ministers of Education on the eradication of illiteracy held in Tehran in 1965, then in 1966, it was founded by the proclamation of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

1.3       This day was also adopted as part of the UN's sustainable development goals program in 2015.

1.4      The theme for 2020 is - “Literacy teaching and learning in the COVID-19 crisis and beyond.”


  1. Patrika Gate will be inaugurated by the PM in Jaipur

2.1       The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Patrika Gate in Jaipur, through video conferencing.

2.2       The Iconic Gate is built by the Patrika Group of Newspapers on the Jawaharlal Nehru Marg in Jaipur.

2.3         He will also release the Samvad Upanishad & Akshar Yatra Books.


  1. Three Members Committee on Content Regulation in Govt Advertising: SC

3.1       The 19th meeting of Supreme Court-mandated, Committee on Content Regulation in Government Advertising (CCRGA).

3.2       As per directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court, states are mandated to set up their respective three-member committees on Content Regulation of Government Advertisements. Karnataka, Goa, Mizoram, and Nagaland States have already constituted state-level Three Member Committees.

3.3         In the event of any non-compliance of  CCRGA’s orders, the Committee may be constrained to put embargo on issue of further advertisements by nodal agencies of concerned governments, which come under the purview of this Committee.

3.4        The Committee may, if necessary, also decide to summon the concerned official of the Govt. agencies dealing with the release of advertisements in the event of undue delay in responding to Committee’s notices.


  1. Thykoodam-Petta Stretch of Kochi Metro inaugurated

4.1       The Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, has inaugurated the Thykoodam-Petta stretch of the Kochi Metro.

 4.2      Kochi Water Metro Project, is also going to implement at the cost of Rs 747 crore with the financial assistance of German Bank, KFW. Kochi is the first city in the country wherein water transport has been integrated as a feeder service to the metro. Kochi Metro Rail Limited, has engaged persons from the LGBT community in its operations, thus becoming the first organization to appoint transgender persons in the country.

4.3       Kochi Metro has dedicated walls for the fishermen community who saved thousands during the 2018 Kerala floods.


  1. DRDO successfully tests Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle

5.1       Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully demonstrated the hypersonic air-breathing scramjet technology with the flight test of Hypersonic Technology Demonstration Vehicle (HSTDV) \from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Launch Complex at Wheeler Island,  Odisha.

5.2       The vehicle is indigenously developed by using the scramjet propulsion system.

5.3       According to the govt. HSTDV can cruise at a speed of Mach 6 and move up to an altitude of 32.5 km in 20 seconds.

5.4         It can also be used for launching satellites at low cost and the long-range cruise missile.


  1. First World Solar Technology Summit

6.1       The first-ever World Solar Technology Summit will be held on 8th September 2020 and will be organized by the International Solar Alliance.

6.2       More than 26000 participants from 149 countries have registered to join the virtual Summit.

6.3      The entire proceedings will be available live in four languages: English, Spanish, French, and Arabic.

6.4       The aim of the summit is to bring the spotlight on accelerating affordable and sustainable clean green energy by showcasing and deliberating on the innovative state of the art next-generation technologies in solar power.


  1. 3.5 magnitude earthquake hits Maharashtra’s Palghar

7.1       An earthquake of 3.5 magnitude hit Maharashtra’s Palghar.

7.2       The news was confirmed by the National Centre for Seismology.

7.3       National Centre for Seismology, established by the Ministry of Earth Sciences, to monitor earthquakes and conducts seismological research.


  1. Keshvananda Bharti dies at 79

8.1       Keshvananda Bharti, who led a plea in the basic structure case ( Keshavananda Bharti v. State of Kerela,1973) passed away at 79.

8.2       Keshvananda had filed a case challenging the Kerela govt.’s attempt to impose restrictions over his mutt property.


  1. Rajnath Singh met with his Iranian counterpart

9.1       The Union Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh has met with his Iranian counterpart, Brigadier General Amir Hatami after concluding his three day Russia visit.

9.2       The issue of regional security and bilateral cooperation was discussed during the meet.


  1. French company developing airship that can pick up drop cargo without landing

10.1       French company, ‘Flying Whales’ is developing a large capacity airship that can pick up and drop cargo up to 66,000 kilograms of payload mid-flight.

10.2       The LCA60T airship, powered by helium, is a vertical takeoff and landing vehicle (VTOL) and won’t require any extra infrastructure during take-offs and landings.
