1. Nobel Peace Prize 2019

  • The Nobel Peace Prize for 2019 has won by Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed Ali of Ethiopia.
  • He won the prize for his efforts to achieve peace & international cooperation and to resolve the border dispute with the neighboring country, Eritrea.

2. Renowned Saxophone Exponent Kadri Gopalnath Passed Away

  • Renowned saxophone exponent, Kadri Gopalnath passed away on 11 October 2019, at the age of 69.
  • He was the first Carnatic musician of the country to be invited in the BBC Promenade concert in the Royal Albert Hall at London in 1994.
  • He was also conferred the prestigious Padma Shri Award in 2004.

3.  DGCA asked airlines to send SMS repeatedly to passengers regarding flight delay

  • Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has asked all the airlines to send text messages to passengers after every 30 minutes in case the flight is delayed, canceled or whose boarding gates have changed.

4. Kohli created history, surpassed Sachin & Sehwag

  • Virat Kohli has created history in the Indian Cricket by making 7th double hundreds.
  • He has surpassed Sachin Tendulkar & Virendra Sehwag.

5. 14th CIC Convention

  • The 14th Central Information Commission (CIC) Convention will be held on 12 October 2019.
  • The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah will be the chief guest in the event.
  • There are three themes of the event 1) Gandhian thoughts & RTI, 2) RTI as a tool of effective governance, 3) Challenges ahead for the RTI Act.

6. PII-ICRC Annual Awards winners declared

  • Winners of the PII-ICRC annual awards are declared for the best article and best photograph on the humanitarian subjects.
  • These awards are jointly organized by the Press Institute of India (PII) & the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
  • The awards were given on the theme ' Impact of Climate Change on Humanitarian Issues'.
  • Urvashi Sarkar, an independent journalist won the first prize for her article- 'Our houses are vanishing. Nobody Cares'.
  • G.Sivaprasad won the first prize in the best photograph for his picture, 'Mathrubhumi'.

7. MoU is signed between GeM & Union Bank of India

  • MoU is signed between the Government e-marketplace and the Union Bank of India.
  • According to the MoU, UBI will transfer funds through GeM Pool Accounts.
  • The MoU will facilitate a cashless, paperless, & transparent payment system on the portal.

8. SARAS Aajeevika Mela begun in New Delhi

  • SARAS Aajeevika Mela has started at India Gate Lawns in New Delhi.
  • It has organized by the Ministry of Rural Development under the initiative of the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana- National Rural Livelihood Mission.
  • The aim of the event is to bring the rural women SHGs (Self Help Groups) under one platform to showcase their skills, sell their products and help them build linkages with bulk buyers.

9. Govt. launched SUMAN Initiative

  • Government of India launched SUMAN ( Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan ) initiative in New Delhi.
  • The Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Dr. HarshVardhan has launched the initiative.
  • The aim of the initiative is to assure dignified, respectful, & quality healthcare at no cost for every woman & newborn visiting the public health facility in order to prevent all maternal & newborn deaths.
  • The initiative was launched during the 13th Conference of Central Council of Health & Family Welfare.

10. Railway Police launched Mobile App ' Sahyatri'

  • Union Minister Nityanand Rai has launched govt. railway police's website and a mobile application ' Sahyatri'.
  • The website will include the database of criminals, which includes their photographs and will also have the facility to scan & read QR codes and make an emergency call.
  • The app will help the passengers to find out the jurisdiction of a police station and the details of GRP officials by geo-tagging with google maps.

11. Moody's cuts India GDP growth to 5.8% for FY20

  • Moody, the rating agency has cut India's GDP growth rate to 5.8% for FY20 from 6.2%.

12. GoI launched " mHariyali" app 

  • The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs has launched the "mHariyali" app for environment protection in Govt. colonies.
  • The aim is to encourage public engagement in planting trees and other such green drives and can upload information/photos of any plantation done by them.
