1. International Day of the Girl Child

  • International Day of the Girl Child, is celebrated every year on 11 October, across the world.
  • The day was declared by the United Nations and was first celebrated on 11 October 2012
  • 2019 Theme- Girl Force: Unscripted & Unstoppable.

2. World Obesity Day

  • World Obesity Day is observed globally on 11 October every year.
  • It is organized by the World Obesity Federation, which is a non-profit body, in official relations with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and is a collaborating body on the Lancet Commission on Obesity.
  • The first World Obesity day was observed in 2015.
  • Aim: To lead & drive global efforts to reduce, prevent & treat obesity.

3. Nobel Prize in Literature for 2019, 2018.

  • Ms. Olga Tokarczuk has won the Nobel prize in literature for 2018, for works that explore the "Crossing of boundaries as a form of life".
  • She has become the 15th woman to win the Nobel prize in literature within a century.
  • Mr. Peter Handke has won the Nobel prize in literature for 2019, for an influential work that with linguistic ingenuity has explored the periphery and the specificity of  human experience
  • Notably, last year the Nobel prize in literature could not be given, due to sex abuse allegations that rocked the Swedish Academy.

4. Hindon Airport to operate the first flight on 11 October

  • Hindon Airport will operate its first flight on 11 October and the flight will be from Heritage Aviation Company to Pithoragarh.
  • It can handle flights that can carry up to 80 passengers.

5. Turkey assault displaced 60,000 people in Syria

  • Around 60,000 people displaced in northeastern Syria due to Turkey's military offense.
  • The displacement was mainly from the border areas of Ras al-Ain, Tal Abyad & Derbasiyeh.

6. 9th RCEP meeting in Thailand

  • The 9th Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Intersessional Ministerial Meeting will be held in Bangkok, Thailand on 11 & 12 October 2019.
  • The meeting will be attended by the Union Minister of Commerce & Industry & Railways, Piyush Goyal.
  • The PM is also expected to attend the meeting.

7. 13th Conference of Central Council of Health & Family Welfare

  • The Union Health Minister, Dr. Harsh Vardhan has inaugurated the 13th Conference of Central Council of Health & Family Welfare ( CCHFW ).
  • According to him, the purpose of the conference is to build a consensus on the national health priorities like - Universal health coverage through Ayushman Bharat, eliminating TB etc,.
  • The collective increase in healthcare spending by the States/UTs to meet the goals of healthcare spending of National Health Policy 2017- 2.5% of GDP by 2025.

8. 38th India Carpet Expo in Varanasi

  • The 38th India Carpet Expo will be held in Varanasi from 11- 14 October 2019.
  • The Carpet Export Promotional Council will organize the event with an aim to promote the cultural heritage and the weaving skills of Indian handmade carpets.
  • The expo is held twice a year, in Varanasi & Delhi.
  • This is the 15th expo in Varanasi.
  • It is one of the largest handmade carpet fairs in Asia.
  • India exports its 85-90% of its carpet production.
  • The main carpet producing states in India are Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, North Eastern Region of India, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, Chhattisgarh & Jharkhand.

9. 63rd Dhammachakra Pravartan Din

  • The 63rd Dhammachakra Pravartan Din will be celebrated at Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur.
  • Buddhist followers from different parts of the country and abroad will pay homage to the Father of the Indian Constitution, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
