World War Orphans Day
·        World War Orphans Day is observed every year on Jan.6

Cyclone Pabuk approaches the Andaman Islands
·        An ‘orange’ alert has sounded for the Andaman & Nicobar Islands as the cyclone Pabuk is approaching.
·        Orange alert means people should be prepared as it is a likelihood of extreme weather conditions which may disrupt road or air travel and also may cause a threat to life & personal property.
·        The sea conditions will be very rough till January 7.

Kevin Sweeney, Pentagon Chief of Staff Resigns
·         The Pentagon Chief of Staff, Kevin Sweeney resigns from his post.
·         Resignation is made after the U.S Defense Secretary Jim Mattis resigned in December.
·         Sweeney has served two years in the Pentagon.
·         Notably, recently Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White also announced her resignation.

U.S Former Defense Secretary, Harold Brown died
·        The former U.S Defense Secretary, Harold Brown died on 4 January 2019 at Rancho Santa Fe, California.
·        He was 91.
·        He was a nuclear physicist and led the Pentagon to modernize its defense systems.

China named Lunar Rover as ‘Yutu 2’
·        Chinese lunar rover which recently marked its first-ever footprints on the dark side of the moon is named as ‘Yutu 2’.
·        Notably, no research has been done until now in the dark part of the moon and ‘Yutu 2’ will be the first to do it.

20 Cyber-Physical Centres will likely to build by the Centre
·         20 Cyber-Physical Centres will likely to build in India to begin research on artificial intelligence, Machine learning, Internet of Things, & quantum computing with a budget of 3660 crores rupees.
·         The declaration was made by the Secretary of the Department of Science & Technology, Ashutosh Sharma, at the 106th Indian Science Congress 2019.
·         The centers will be built in the IITs & IISc.

P.M laid the foundation stone of revival of North Koel (Mandal Dam)
·        P.M Modi, during his visit to Jharkhand, has laid the foundation stone of the revival of North Koel (Mandal Dam) in Jharkhand.
·        The projects worths Rs. 2,500 crore.
·        He also laid the foundation stone of Kanhar Stone Pipeline Irrigation System at Palamu in Jharkhand.

Ministry of Women & Child Development will host ‘Women of India Organic Festival’
·         Ministry of Women & Child Development will host the 6th ‘Women of India Organic Festival’ at Leisure Valley in Chandigarh.
·         The festival will be held from 12 January to 14 January 2019.
·         The event will be organized to celebrate and promote women farmers & entrepreneurs in the organic sector from the remotest parts of India.
