People paid tribute at Jay Stambh on the occasion of Koregaon-Bhima anniversary
·        People paid tribute at the Jay Stambh on the occasion of Koregaon-Bhima anniversary.
·        On this day tribute is given to all those soldiers who were killed in the Koregaon-Bhima battle on Jan. 1 1818.
·        The memorial 'Jay Stambh' was built by the Britishers on the memory of those soldiers.
·        The memorial is built in the Perne village of Pune, Maharashtra.
·        This was the 201st anniversary of the battle.

Pakistan has shared its nuclear installations with India
·  According to the Agreement on Prohibitions of Attacks Against Nuclear Installations & Facilities between Pakistan & India, Pakistan has released the list of its Nuclear installations and has shared with India.
·         According to the agreement, both the countries have to inform to each other of any nuclear installations and facilities to be covered under the agreement, on the first day of January annually.
·         The agreement was signed on 31 December ,1988 and came into force on 27 January, 1991.
·         India has also shared its nuclear installations with Pakistan on 1 Jan. 2019.

537 Indians are jailed in Pakistani prisons
·         According to the Consular Access Agreement, 2008 between India & Pakistan, 537 indians are lodged in the jails of Pakistan.
·         Among them 54 are civilians & 483 are fishermen.
·         According to the agreement both the countries will exchange the list of prisoners in each other's custody twice a year i.e. on 1 Jan. & 1 July.
·         India will also give the list of Pakistani detainees in India.

NASA's spacecraft has entered into the orbit of the smallest cosmic object
·         NASA's spacecraft OSIRIS-REx has successfully entered into the orbit of the smallest cosmic object, which is an asteroid.
·         The name of the asteroid is Bennu.
·         It is the smallest ever cosmic object to be orbited by a spacecraft.

Ashwini Lohani , Railway Board Chairman, retired on Monday
·        Ashwini Lohani, the Chairman of the Railway Board is retired on 31st December 2018.
·        V.K Yadav is appointed as the new chairman.
·        Ashwini Lohani was appointed after the resignation of A.K Mittal in August 2017.

Sheikh Hasina, became the Prime Minister of Bangladesh for the 4th time consecutively
·         Sheikh Hasina has won the Bangladesh elections for the 4th consecutive time and has become the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
·         Her party is Awami League Party.
·         On her opposition, she had Khaleda Zia.

Port Blair Airport is designated as an authorized immigration check post
·         Port Blair Airport in Andaman & Nicobar Islands has become the authorized immigration check post for entry & exit from India.
·         This is done to flourish tourism of the place as the foreign tourists can directly come to Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
·         Annually there are 4 lakh tourists visit the Island and thousands of them are foreigners.

·         Archealogical Survey of India has declared 6 monuments as the mouments of National importance in 2018 which are as follows-
Ø  The 1245 year old High Court Building of Nagpur, M.H.
Ø  Haveli of Agha Khan
Ø  Haveli of Hathi Khan
Ø  Neemrana Baori, Alwar, Rajasthan
Ø  The group of the temple at Ranipur Jharail, Odissa
Ø  Vishnu Temple, Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand.

Sudhir Bhargava, appointed as the Chief Information Commissioner
·         Sudhir Bhargava is appointed as the new Chief Information Commissioner and he will take charge from 1 Jan. 2019.
·         Four new members are also appointed in the Commission.

Lok Sabha has passed the Indian Medical Council Bill
·         The Lok Sabha has passed the Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Bill on 31st December 2019.
·         The bill is passed to allow a panel of eminent professionals to run the Medical Council of India so that medical education can be regulated.
·         This is done to flourish tourism of the place as the foreign tourists can directly come to Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
·         Annually there are 4 lakh tourists visit the Island and thousands of them are foreigners.
