National Consumer Day
·         National Consumer Day is observed every year on 24 December in India.
·         The day is acknowledged as on this day the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 was enacted in 1986.

Nirupam Sen, CPI(M) senior leader passed away
·    The veteran leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) passed away on 24 December (Monday).
·        His age was 72.
·        He was the former Commerce & Industry Minister of West Bengal.

Death toll rises to 280 in Indonesia
·        Volcano- triggered Tsunami in Indonesia’s Java & Sumatra Island killed 280 people up till now.
·         The cause of the tsunami was the eruption of  Anak Krakatau volcano.

Modi released Rs. 100 commemorative coin on the birth anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee
·        P.M Narendra Modi has released rs. 100 commemorative coin on 24 December, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister, Late Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee which arrives on 25 December 
·        This is the 94th birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister.

A 6.4 magnitude of earthquake hits off Tonga
·        According to U.S Geological Survey, a 6.4 earthquake has hit the coast of Tonga, a Pacific Island.
·        No tsunami warnings are issued.

Patrick Shanahan will take over as acting defense secretary
·        After the announcement of the resignation of Jim Mattis, defense secretary of U.S, Patrick Shanahan will take over as acting defense secretary in the Pentagon.
·         The move has taken as Mattis is leaving Pentagon sooner than expected.

ICRIER cites, no rise in working women despite rising in literacy level
·      According to the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations, it is cited that there is no rise in working despite the rise in literacy level.
·         The women with graduate degrees and not in the labor force is increased from 62.7% to 65.2%.
·         Also the percentage of illiterate women out of the labor force also increased from 67.6% to 70.1%.

P.M Modi announced Sardar Patel Award
·         P.M Modi has announced annual Sardar Patel Award for National Integration.
·         The award would be given to those who contribute to national integration.
·         The award is announced during the DGP Conference which was organized at Kevadiya in Narmada district of Gujarat.
·         It was the three-day conference from 20 December to 23 December 2018.
·         P.M also launched the website of Cyber Coordination Centre which is a one-stop shop on all cyber-related issues.
·         He also released a commemorative postal stamp on the National Police Memorial and a special issue of Indian Police Journal on Police Martyrdom which will be published by the BPR&D.
·         He also suggested organizing a national level parade by police forces of 3-4 states near the Statue of Unity every year on 31st October which is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel and which is also observed as the National Unity Day.
