Kisan Diwas

168 people killed in Indonesia due to Tsunami
·    168 people killed and hundreds injured by the volcano-triggered tsunami in the islands of Java & Sumatra in Indonesia.
·       The tsunami has caused due to the volcanic eruption of Anak Krakatau volcano.

Agni IV test-fired successfully
·       On 23 December 2018, the Indian Army has successfully test-fired Agni IV missile.
·      This is a surface-to-surface nuclear capable long-range ballistic missile with a strike range of 4000 k.m.
·    It is test-fired from launch complex-4 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) AT Dr. Abdul Kalam Island which was earlier known as Wheeler Island.
·    It was the 7th trial, the last trial was conducted by the Strategic Force Command (SFC)  of the Indian Army on 2nd Jan. 2018.

UFBU call for one day strike
·     United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) which is an umbrella organization to Nine banks union call for one day strike on 26 December 2018 to protest amalgamation of the Vijaya Bank & Dena Bank with Bank of Baroda.
·   According to the Union the merger will make suffer the employees of the banks as several branches will be closed after the merger.

·        Vedangi Kulkarni, 20, has become the fastest Asian to cycle the globe.
·        She has peddled for 159 days, 300 k.m. a day in 14 countries.

Brett McGurk, another U.S official resigned from the post
·    Brett McGurk, the U.S envoy to the global coalition fighting the Islamic State group has resigned from his post.
·    The move has taken after the U.S President Donald Trump ordered U.S military to withdraw from Syria.
·       This is the second such resignation after former U.S Defence Secretary Jim Mattis.

·    According to the Sustainable Development Index released by the NITI Aayog, Himachal Pradesh, Kerela & Tamil Nadu are in the top list to achieve United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
·    The index comprises of scores achieved by each State & Union Territory on the basis of their aggregate performance across 13 of the 17 SDGs.

·   The Union Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has inaugurated the Information Fusion Centre-Indian Ocean Region at Information Management & Analysis Centre (IMAC) Gurugram.
·  The aim is to engage with partner nations & multi-national maritime constructs to develop comprehensive maritime domain awareness and share information on the vessels of interest.
