January 2022: Important National & International Days


  • 1st Jan -  Global Family Day
Aim              -  To start the International decade for a Culture of Peace and Non Violence
                         for the children of world in 1997.
                         This day is also known as One Day of Peace & Sharing.
  • 1st Jan -  DRDO Foundation Day
Aim                  -  On 1st January 1958 DRDO was established with just 10 labs across
                             India.
                             It is DRDO's 64th foundation Day.
Function          -  To enhance research work in the defense sector.
Chairman        -  Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy
Headquarters  -  New Delhi
Motto               -  "Strength's origin is in Knowledge".

  • 4th Jan-  World Braille Day

Aim- To raise awareness of the importance of braille as a means of communication in the full realization of the human rights for blind and visually impaired people. This day is observed on the birth anniversary of Braille inventor, Louis Braille.

  • 4th Jan - World Hypnotism Day
Aim - To promote benefits and remove myths of hypnotism.
           To honor the Irish hypnotherapist Dr. Jack Gibson.
  • 6th Jan- World War Orphan Day

Aim-     To address the war orphans as it has become a worldwide humanitarian & social crisis.


  • 9th Jan- Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas (16th Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas Convention)

Aim-  To mark the contribution of the overseas Indian community towards the development of India.
       The Day commemorates the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to Mumbai on 9 January 1915.
Theme 2022- "Contributing to Aatmanirbhar Bharat".

  • 10th Jan- World Hindi Day

Aim- Marking the anniversary of the first World Hindi Conference which was held in 1975 by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The first World Hindi Day is celebrated on 10 January 2006, since then it is celebrated every year on 10 January.

  • 10th Jan - Raising Day of Army Air Defense

Corps of Army Air Defense- One of the active corps of the Indian Army tasked with the protection of Indian Air spaces from enemy aircraft and missiles, specially below 5000 feet.
It was first raised during the British era in 1939.
It took active participation in the second world war.
Since, January10 1994, it is exercising autonomous status.

  • 11th Jan-  National Road Safety Week 2021 (11Jan-17Jan)

Aim      -   To create awareness about road safety & minimize road accidents and save lives.
                 It is the 32nd National Road Safety Week
Theme 2021  -  "Save yourself to save your family"
Theme 2022  -  "Sadak Suraksha - Jeevan Raksha"
                

  • 11th Jan - Death Anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri
He was the 2nd Prime Minister of Independent India.
He popularized the slogan 'Jai Jawaan Jai Kisaan'.
He actively participated in India's Freedom Struggle.
He was a man of integrity and competence, who understood the language of the common man.
He was greatly influenced by the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.
  • 12th Jan- National Youth Day (Yuwa Diwas)

Aim      - Marks the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. He was very vocal about the importance of youth in the process of nation-building.
In 1984, the Government of India declared it as National Youth Day and since 1985, the event is celebrated in India every year.
Theme 2022  - "Its all in the Mind".

  • 14th Jan - Armed Forces Veterans Day
Aim - It was initially called as Armstice Day.
           Celebrated to honor the sacrifices of our veterans in serving the nation.
           Field Marshall K.M Kariappa, the first Indian Commander in Chief of the Indian Armed Forces
           retired on 14th Jan.1953.

  • 15th Jan- Army Day

Aim      -  A day to salute the valiant soldiers who sacrificed their lives to protect the country and its citizens.
The Indian Army was founded by British on 1st April 1895 but it is celebrated in India on 15th Jan.

  • 19th Jan- National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Raising Day

Aim      - NDRF has come into existence on 19th Jan. 2006 and since then, has been playing a pivotal role in disaster management & community awareness for disaster risk reduction in the country.

  • 23rd Jan - Parakram Diwas

Aim       - To celebrate Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Ji's birth anniversary. It is his 125th birth anniversary.


  • 24th Jan - International Day of Education

Aim       - To celebrate the role of education  for peace and development

Theme 2021- "Recover & Revitalize Education for the Covid-19 Generation".

Theme 2022 - "Changin Course, Transforming Education"


  • 24th Jan - National Girl Child Day
Aim   -  To highlight the inequalities faced by a majority of the girls in India.
              To highlight the importance of education, nutrition, medical care and safety of 
              girl children etc.
              It was first initiated in 2008 by the Ministry of Women & Child Development.

  • 25th Jan - National Tourism Day

Aim       - To promote the tourism industry and recognize its contribution to the growth and sustainability of tourist destinations and local communities.

Theme 2021 - Dekho Apna Desh, virtual event.
Theme 2022 - "Rural & Community CentricTourism"

  • 25th Jan - National Voters Day
Aim             - To mark the foundation day of the Election Commission of India (1950)
Theme 2022 - " Making Elections Inclusive, Accessible & Participative"

Republic Day

International Customs Day-

Aim - Recognizing the role of custom officials and agencies in maintaining border security.

Slogan - "Customs bolstering recovery, renewal, & resilience for a sustainable supply chain".

Theme 2022 - "Scaling up customs digital transformation by embracing a data culture and 

                           building a  data ecosystem"


  • 27th Jan - International Day of Commemoration in the memory of the victims of the Holocaust

Aim       - Commemorating the tragedy of the Holocaust that occurred during the Second World War.

Theme 2021 - "Facing the Aftermath: Recovery & Reconstitution after the Holocaust".

Theme 2022 - "Memory, Dignity & Justice".


  • 28th Jan  - Birth Anniversary of Lala Lajpat Rai
He was born on 28th Jan 1865 in Punjab.
He actively participated in India's Freedom Struggle.
He earned the title of "Punjab Keshari" & "the Lion of the Punjab".
He initiated the foundation of Punjab National Bank.
The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in Hisar, Haryana has been named after him.


  • 30th Jan - Martyrs Day/Shaheed Diwas

Aim       - In honor of those who are recognized as martyrs of the nation.

                It marks the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi by Nathuram Godse in 1948.


  • 31st Jan-  World Leprosy Day

Aim      -   To increase the awareness of Leprosy or Hansen's Disease.

               The day was chosen by French Humanitarian, Raoul Follereau as a tribute the life of Mahatma Gandhi who had compassion for people afflicted with leprosy.

In India, World Leprosy Day is celebrated on 30 January, on the anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi's Death.

Theme 2021 - "Beat Leprosy, End Stigma & Advocate for Mental Well Being"

Theme 2022 -  "United for Dignity"
