Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas
·        Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas or NRI Day is celebrated on 9 January every year since 2003.
·        It is celebrated on 9 January as on this day in 1915 Mahatma Gandhi had returned to India from South Africa and on the basis of the recommendations of the committee headed by LM Singhvi, the day is celebrated since 2003.
·        2019 Theme- “Role of the Indian diaspora in building a new India”.

India has given permit to open Iranian Private Bank in Mumbai
·        India has given permit to open Iranian Private Bank’s branch, Bank Pasargad in Mumbai.
·        It will likely to begin operations from March 2019.
·        It will handle transactions related to India’s oil purchase from Iran in view of U.S’s sanctions.

Indi   India & Norway signed a MoU for an India Norway Ocean Dialogue
·         India & Norway has signed a MoU for an India Norway Ocean dialogue to boost blue economy, bilateral trade & Sustainable Development Goals.
·         The MoU was signed during Norway’s P.M, Erna Solberg’s three-day visit to India.

India’s economy to expand by 7.5% in 2019-20: World Bank
·        According to the World Bank, India’s economy will likely to expand by 7.5% in 2019-20, thereby will retain the position of the world’s fastest growing economy.

Tamil Nadu gets a new 33rd district
·        A new district will be formed in Tamil Nadu named as Kallakurichi by bifurcating Villuparam.
·        This will be the 33rd district of the state.

Congress has appointed first transgender as the national level office bearer
·        Congress has appointed, Apsara Reddy the first transgender as its national level office bearer.
·        Reddy is a well known transgender journalist and activist and is appointed as the national general secretary of the All India Mahila Congress

Vikram Mistri will be India’s new envoy to China
·        India has appointed Vikram Mistri as the new envoy to China.
·        He has replaced Gautam Bambawale, who resigned in November 2018.

MoU signed between Indian Army & PNB
·         Memorandum of Understanding has signed between Indian Army & Punjab National Bank regarding defence salary package.
·         MoU includes ‘RAKSHAK PLUS’ Scheme, for serving pers & veterans, overdraft facility ranges from 0.75 to 3.0 lakhs, instant credit of outstation cheques, free SMS alerts etc.

I&B Ministry hike advertisement rates by 25% for print media
·        The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has hiked the advertisement rates for print media by 25%.
·        The hike will be valid for 3 years from 8 January 2019.
·        The decision has taken by taking into account several factors like the increase in price of newsprint, processing charges etc.
·        The last revision in advertisement rate was made in 2013 which was 19%.

Swadesh Darshan Project in Meghalaya has inaugurated
·         The C.M of Meghalaya, Conrad K Sangma has inaugurated the first Swadesh Darshan Project, “ Development of North East Circuit: Umiam (Lake View) – U Lum Sohpetbneng – Mawdiangdiang – Orchid Lake Resort” in Umiam on 9 January 2019.
·         The cost of the project is Rs 99.13 crores.
·         Facilities like Traditional Healing Centre, Tribal Rejuvenation Centre, Tourist Information Centre, Multipurpose Hall, Public Toilets, Solid Waste Management has developed.
