Japan withdraws from International Whaling Commission
  • ·     Japan has withdrawn from International Whaling Commission and will resume commercial whaling from next year.
  •     Commercial whaling means hunting of whales to use their meat, blubber for commercial purposes.
  •         International Whaling Commission sets catch limits for commercial whaling.


Around 1 million employees go on strike against the merger of Vijaya Bank, Dena Bank with Bank of Baroda
  • ·        The United Forum of Bank Unions which is an organization of all nine unions and claims to have 10 lakh bank employees registered in it, went on strike against the merger of Vijaya Bank, Dena Bank & Bank of Baroda.
  •       According to them, the merger will affect thousands of employees as hundreds of branches of these banks will shut down.


Around 260 leopards poached in India since 2015
  • ·        According to the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, 260 leopards are poached between 2015 and 2018 in the country.
  •       Out of these, 64 cases were recorded in 2015, 83 in 2016, 47 in 2017& 66 in 2018 (till October).
  •         In Uttarakhand, the highest number of cases were recorded which is around 60 followed by Himachal Pradesh (49), Chhattisgarh (25), Madhya Pradesh (21).


A 25 feet statue of Vajpayee will be installed in Lok Bhavan, U.P
  • ·        A 25 feet statue of the former Prime Minister, Late Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee will be installed in Lok Bhavan, U.P secretariat.
  •      The announcement was made by the U.P Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during the ceremony of the 94th birth anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee i.e. on 25th December.


UNICEF & WHO: 30 million newborns require specialized care
  • ·        According to the latest global study of UNICEF & WHO, 30 million newborns requires specialized care in hospitals every year.
  •                 Without this, either the children die or get disabled for life. 
  •        In India, 6,40,000 newborn dies every year which is 25.4 newborn deaths per 1000 live births.
  •        According to the Sustainable Development Goals, all the countries have to lower down the neonatal deaths to 12 or low per 1000 live births by 2030.


Jyoti Randhawa & Mahesh Virajdar arrested for poaching charges
  • ·         International Golfer Jyoti Randhawa & National level shooter Mahesh Virajdar is arrested in poaching charges in U.P.
  •       Randhawa ranked among top100 in the Official World Golf Ranking several times between 2004 & 2009.


11 Projects for Yamuna Rejuvenation is to start from 27 December 2018
  • ·         Union Minister for Water Resources, River Development & Ganga rejuvenation, Road transport & Highways & Shipping, Nitin Gadkari will lay the foundation stone of 11 projects for Yamuna rejuvenation.
  •         The project comes under Namami Gange Programme and will be taken by the National Mission for Clean Ganga.
