World Iodine Deficiency Day
World Iodine Deficiency day is observed on 21st Oct. every year. It is also known as Global Iodine Deficiency Disorders Prevention Day. The aim behind observing this day is to generate awareness of the adequate use of iodine and to highlight the consequences of iodine deficiency.

The govt. will pay tribute to Bose’s legacy by flag hoisting in Red Fort to mark the 75th anniversary of the ‘Azad Hind Govt.’ headed by Subhash Chandra Bose.

National Police Memorial to be unveiled today
P.M Modi will unveil National Police Memorial on 21st Oct. The Memorial is built in recognition of the sacrifice made by nearly 35,000 police personnel killed in action since Independence. The memorial contains a  granite pillar of 30 foot weighing around 238 tonnes. The Memorial will also have a ‘Wall of Valour’, wherein the names of the police personnel, including those who killed in India-Pak war in 1965, the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack of 2008 and the Parliament attack in 2001.

India, U.S & Japan to plan to Joint Air Exercise
The bilateral ‘Cope India’ exercise of India & U.S can be elevated to trilateral exercise between India, U.S & Japan. Recently, these three nations have conducted naval exercise under the Malabar naval exercise.
The ‘Cope India’ was first conducted in 2004 with the involvement of fighter aircraft and force multiplier such as Airborne Warning & Control system (AWACS).

World’s longest sea bridge to open on Oct. 24
World’s longest sea bridge Honk Kong-Zhuhai-Macao bridge will be open for traffic from Oct. 24. It is the 55 km long bridge built on Lingdingyang waters of the Pearl River Estuary. It will reduce the travel time of 3 hours from Hong Kong to Zhuhai to just 30 minutes.

Four Himalayan peaks named after former P.M Atal Bihari Vajpayee
Four Himalayan peaks near Gangotri glacier has been named after former P.M Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The peaks are named as Atal-1,2,3 & 4.

Europe & Japan send rocket on a 7-year journey in space
The European & Japanese space agency has successfully sent a spacecraft ‘BepiColombo’ to the Mercury, the nearest planet to the Sun. It was sent via Ariane 5 Rocket, from French Guiana for 7 years. The spacecraft is named after Italian scientist Giuseppe “Bepi” Colombo.
